I recently helped my son to build a model car. I was dreading it when we opened the package and began to sort out pieces. The model he had chosen was a Porsche Carrera GT and I have to say that the end result amazed me. We ended up with a final product that both he and I were proud of. It was time (and a lot of it) well spent together. I realized, as we were gluing minuscule parts together that he was developing quite a love for cool cars. He knew more about them than I believed any 8 year old could know about cars and through our cooperation and efforts, I have to admit I now know more about them than I ever thought humanly possible. He proudly shows it off to anyone who is lucky enough to enter our house and proudly states that he built it himself (ahem!) He is already discussing what model we are going to get next time and I think he is pretty much settled on a red Dodge Viper. I get al little bit scared thinking about starting a new one with him, remembering all those tiny pieces, but then I remember the time we got to spend together and the sense of pride he had at the finished product. I foresee many Super car models in our future and it now makes me smile.
