When you are looking at businesses as investments, there is one simple thing that you should be looking for: real profits.
Where do you find these?
Well you can look through prospectuses (which are in some respects business reviews) of the companies that you are interested in, or in the case of purchasing a business, the financial statements will do.
Basically, you are looking to see if the company is profitable by itself - not due to special circumstances. If the company has established profit systems in place, and are profitable, they should be worth some further analysis. Other analysis that you might do would depend on the business and you should consult your team of advisors (most likely in this case an accountant) to show you what you should be looking for.
Just remember this simple business investing advice: look for profitable companies.
Do you have a big collection of bookmarks (or favorites) on your computer?
I sure have. It is one of those things that seems to pile up over the years and I am to the point where I have so many that it is difficult to find what I am looking for. I never quite realized how many very cool websites that I had bookmarked over the past year, and it was time for some cleaning.
I decided to separate my choices into two categories: just cool stuff, and just stupid stuff with the stupid stuff getting deleted.
How long did that take?
Well, I’m not done. You see I got a little distracted (oops) reading some of the best reviews on computer hardware… but I will get my cleaning done. It just might take longer than I had planned.
Maybe someone should make a tool that archives your old bookmarks that you don’t visit anymore and then I wouldn’t have to clean them up.
There are many companies out there right now that specialize in opinions and reviews on everyday household products. It is a very competitive world and it is tough to keep a product on the market these days.
Views and opinions are one way for manufacturers to know which products that the consumer will utilize and which ones are a waste of time. If a product is in high demand, the producer can charge more and make more profits.
Every so often, there comes a product that is right on the mark and the reason for this is that many companies take the opinions of the consumer very seriously. If they know what people want, they are in a better position to make it available.
So, next time you think your opinion doesn’t matter, think again. If you are a consumer, which everyone is, your opinion is what puts the things that we use everyday on the shelves of the local supermarket.
I don’t want to claim to be an expert at website marketing, but I do okay. I have some experience in the field and use that to my advantage when setting up or promoting a new site. But, inevitably, you always run into something that you just don’t know the answer, and then you talk to your website advisor for good advice.
You see, I met my advisor some years ago when I was having some problems figuring out keyword research and we hired an SEO services firm to help us out. He has been a valuable addition to my team and has helped my sites get better traffic and better rankings. It is his expertise that I depend upon when I am stumped.
Recently, I used his advice as to what the best article sites were on the Internet that I should be submitting my articles to. He suggested a couple that from his experience were the best - and I am sure they are.
I am just lucky to have an expert to help me out when I need it - if I didn’t, sometimes I wonder what I would do.
I am one of those people who have always loved designer jewelry. In high school, when my friends had the cheap stuff, it just wasn’t enough for me. I wasn’t the type who had to have the best of everything, but when it came to jewelry, I just noticed when it looked cheap and I had a love for the good stuff at a young age.
I knew that when I grew up, I would need to have a good job to pay for all of the luxury jewelry that I planned on owning. I wanted to own a lot of it, so I wouldn’t have to wear just a few pieces all of the time. And, I must admit, that as an adult, I do tend to spend a lot of money on it.
I have found a place that sells really unique designer jewelry and I have purchased tons of pieces from them. What I love about it is that no one else that I know wears the same pieces and they can totally be me. This particular place will also make custom pieces and I have purchased a few of my own designs as well.
My mother has completely changed her furnishings in her house from Victorian to contemporary furniture. This is such a drastic change and I am not sure that I like it all, but it is definitely not all bad. I was very wowed at her decision to do this and was wondering if she was having a mid-life crisis.
I am not sure of her tastes in the contemporary bedroom furniture, but the rest of the house is not so bad at all. It sure makes the house seem newer and it also makes her appear younger, if you can believe that.
I was happiest over her choices in modern furniture for the dining room. There may have been some selfish reasons for this though, as I got her solid oak Victorian dining room suite, so she could use the very square and very tall cherry wood furniture. I will say, that is does look great though.
As a home business owner, you can find yourself on your own quite often. It is not like you have the opportunity to talk to someone in the next cubicle - quite often you have to find out the answers for yourself.
Early on back before I got into the home business that I am currently involved with, I found a site that had home business reviews. Following their advice presented in their business guide section of the site, I had an easy time setting up my business.
Now, years later, I still refer to their invaluable online business information forum when I need to find the answers I need in a timely manner. Sure, you need to keep an eye out for business information that is incorrect, but for the most part, I have never had a problem.
It is so nice when you can answer a question that is keeping you up in the middle of the night, by just taking a look online. Makes you wonder how we were able to run businesses before the Internet…. it sure wasn’t as easy as it is now.
I have been considering that I should setup a website that could make me some money from my expertise in mortgages. You see, I used to issue mortgage loans at a local bank, and in that time I learned quite a lot.
In some respects, our bank became the local real estate place - not only were we giving out money for mortgages, but we were also putting foreclosures back on the market. This meant that there was a large amount of money flowing through the place and I was able to see both sides of the coin.
So, with my intimate knowledge of the real estate and mortgage industries, I have set out to find an affiliate site that pays for mortgage leads. Even though I have found a few, I am still trying to find an affiliate program that allows people to find FHA loans. When I do, I know I will be ready to launch my site.
I often check out the website ratings to see where my website is ranked. It is exciting for me when it moves up, even if it is just a few spots. I am certainly not a technical person, by a long shot, but I ma slowly learning and some day hope to be a lot more knowledgeable.
When the Internet buzz became the in thing, I didn’t think that I would ever use it, but I ended up having to for work and have loved learning about it ever since I got over my fear of it.
I have even created a couple of fun websites, just for the learning experience. It did not prove to be as daunting a task as I had thought it would be and I had a lot of fun doing it. My third site was created together with my daughter, who is seven, and will soon know much more than I.
I use bookmarks to save information that I am interested in reading about and learning in my spare time. I have not had much of that lately, so when I do eventually end up with some, I will be ready to learn more about this fascinating world wide web.
I am a big fan of using digital media to advertise anything that I have for sale. I get great results every time and I would do nothing different, even if I was more knowledgeable with the Internet.
It is nice to know that I can count on people being able to reach my sales just by doing a free search on the Internet. That is the way I started and until it no longer proves to be effective, that is what I will keep doing.
Many times, I have nothing for sale, but I still like to keep polished up on my abilities to be able to reach the world. So, I started my own website to communicate with family and friends.
I now post my sales on this site as well and it is nice to always be able to go back into the archives to find out who I sold something to and how much I sold it for. Just be careful not to sell any duds to your relatives. I tried to sell my little brother, but I had no takers.
