Potential Submitedge.com Competitor

Posted By Twyla on February 11, 2008 @ 11:37 am

My husband is working on starting a directory submission service. He has a few people who are interested in making it a joint venture company, and he now has the tough decision about whether to join with them or try to go about it on his own. The beauty of joining with someone else is that you have each other to bounce ideas off of.

He has been interested in directory submission for a long time and has wanted to start his own company, but for various reasons, he has had to put it on the back burner for awhile. Now that he has the time, he is really serious about it and it consumes so much of his time, that I know he will do well, no matter what his decision is.

We have been looking into other types of link building services to go along with it and I know we have a lot of big decisions to make about our future. I am hoping it gets easier as we go along, but I am not really expecting it to.

Welcome to Canada, Big Jim!

Posted By Twyla on February 10, 2008 @ 9:09 pm

While I was working as a night auditor at a hotel, I had the pleasure of becoming good friends with an older gentleman that was immigrating to Canada from England. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I was rooting for him all the way the day he went to do his Canadian immigration interview.

I thought that Canada needed more people like this and when he went to do the Canadian Citizenship test, I was on pins and needles waiting for the results. He, of course, is a very smart man and I need not have worried. He probably did better than I would have.

The last obstacle we had to overcome was his G1 practice test. This was especially important because he makes his living by driving trucks. I think he was more nervous about this one than he was the immigration one. But, the day he got his official Saskatchewan driver’s license was a day we celebrated. I am so proud to call him my friend.

Time to Modernize My Parents Bathroom

Posted By Admin on @ 12:58 pm

When you walk into my parents house, it is like stepping through a window to the past.  They have that nice 80s wall paper, and the tacky flower print linoleum on the floors.  But what really gets me is walking into the bathroom.

You see, the bathroom suites in their home are the same as they were nearly 30 years ago.  I especially "love" the yellow tub – wait, I have always hated the thing.  Anyway, since my parents are coming up on their 30th anniversary, I thought that us kids could help them modernize their bathrooms.

Most of the decisions as to what to buy were made rather quickly.  But when it came to decide between whirlpool baths and shower baths, we were stuck.  My mother loved to take baths, but my father would never be caught dead in one.

In the end, we ended up getting one of each – one for each of their bathrooms.  This way they could each have what they wanted (bath or shower) and not have to fight about it.  It will be so nice to visit their home now and not have to look at the yellow tub ever again.

Wanted: Custom Seat Covers

Posted By Twyla on February 9, 2008 @ 10:45 am

The thing I want most for my birthday this year is some new seat covers for my car. I want fancy ones that say a lot about my personality and what kind of person I am. The interior of my car is totally about me and I had more fun decorating it than I did my house.

My uncle works at a dealership that sells Budge SUV covers and I asked him if they also sold seat covers that would work in my car. The reason for this is that they do a lot of custom work and I thought it would be totally cool to have custom seat covers made.

It was unfortunate, however, that they did not do this kind of thing. He said I could look at the Budge car covers, but they did not deal with seat covers at all. I politely declined. I like how my car looks and I could not imagine hiding it under a cover all the time.

Me,My Music and My Phone

Posted By Twyla on February 8, 2008 @ 11:19 am

I have the best MP3 ringtones on my cell phone. I got a bunch of them from my cousin and I was quickly addicted to them. I am, and have always been really big into music and when I bought my MP3 cell phone; it was just another excuse to always have music with me.

Aside from downloading various cell phone ringtones, I also just like to download music to listen to on the bus when I am riding home form school. Music is a release for me and it makes my world a better place when I am in the midst of a bad day. It takes me away from my troubles, even if just for awhile.

I like to download ringtones every day, even if it is just a few. I also spend a lot of time rotating the music that I keep on my phone. I like to keep it current, as well as having some of my favorites on at all times. I like different music for different moods and I trend to have a little of everything on it.

The First Forum I Joined: InterWeb.in

Posted By Twyla on February 7, 2008 @ 3:48 pm

I was at my cousin’s house one day, as he was participating in a mobile forum. It was the first I had ever heard of forums and I became very interested in them. I made it my mission to find one on gaming.

After a bit of searching, I found a gaming forum and I was surprised at the things that I was learning and the conversations I was able to participate in. I am a pretty big gamer, and besides the computer, I own about six different gaming systems. It sounds lame and I don’t spend all day every day playing games, but it is a part of my life.

Someone suggested a gadget India website in one of the forum posts and I learned that it was a way to acquire games at a dirt cheap prices. With the recommendation from the forum, I placed an order – if the game works properly, I can see myself ordering many more.

Planning for a Trip to Europe

Posted By Admin on February 6, 2008 @ 10:48 am

In a couple of months we will be going to Europe for a well deserved vacation.  I don’t really remember the last time that we went anywhere, and it is about time we do.  My wife has always dreamed about going to Europe and I thought it would be a good idea to make her dreams come true.

So, I went to book our trip through a travel agent and they were happy to help us with almost everything.  They booked our flight, our hotels but not our transportation while we are going to be there.  All they gave us was a list of cheap car hire agencies in Spain and France – and we had to do the booking ourselves.

My first phone call was to the companies on the cheap car hire France list and that is where I made my first mistake.  I forgot to account for the time zone difference, so I was calling when they were closed -oops!  Once I figured that out, I had no problems booking a car while we would be in Paris.

I also had to book a car for when we would be in Spain.  Learning from my calls to France, I called when the rental locations would be open.  The first few calls I made on the list of cheap car hire Spain reached someone who spoke Spanish – not English.  Since I don’t speak Spanish at all, it took a few tries to get someone who spoke English, but then it was easy for me to book a car.

So, everything is set and I am going to tell her about the vacation on Valentines day.  I just can’t wait to see her reaction.

My First Responsibility as a Property Owner

Posted By Twyla on February 5, 2008 @ 4:47 pm

My brother and I have just started a joint venture of purchasing rental properties. He informed me that he would be in charge of all maintenance issues and that office duties and paperwork were my responsibility. Not that I want to do any maintenance, but I think I got the raw end of the deal.

I did a search on the Internet to find out exactly how to go about with tenant referencing, as this would be my first task. What I was looking for was a template that I could print out that would ask all the right questions.

As this is a big step for the both of us, tenant checks were going to be a big responsibility. I was not about to let my first big investment be destroyed just because I was not knowledgeable in what I was doing. I found what I was looking for and I am about to call in a few reference checks right now.
