A Young Man’s Fancy

Posted on May 8, 2008 @ 11:03 pm

I remember a joke from back in the sixth grade, a variation on the statement “In the spring, a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” It went like this: “In the spring, a young man’s fancy lightly turns to BASEBALL - that is, if she wants to remain his fancy.”

That is so typical of that era, that a girl must adapt to her fella’s interests if she wants to hold his interest. Excuse me? What about her interests?

Today, women my age who are dating again are not buying that drivel any longer. They’re pursuing business opportunities, gaining new skills, getting fit and healthy all while giving new relationships a chance. Many are at the peak of their careers. No man would give that up for his career. Why should a woman?

Why, in 2008, are we even having this conversation? Oh. I guess I started it. Never mind…
