What are the Dangers of Chlorine in Your Water?

Posted By stevenlocke on June 30, 2009 @ 1:38 pm

A growing body of scientific evidence shows that chlorine in drinking water may actually pose greater long term health dangers than those for which it is used to eliminate. It is an undeniable fact that chlorine is an excellent germ killer. Its mandatory use in public swimming pools makes the water safe for all. But is it safe to drink?

Americans get 75% of the their water from rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Such water is not safe as is and chlorine is the trusted chemical to kill the bacteria that may harm us. However, it is both expensive and not 100% effective in removing harmful parasites.

Here is a quote from dental surgeon Dr. N.W. Walker: “Chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of the modern times. While it prevented epidemics of one disease, it was creating another. Two decades ago, after the start of chlorinating our drinking water in 1904, the present epidemic of the heart trouble, cancer and senility began.” The seeming connection between these is sobering, is it not?

Dr. J.M. Price MD states, “Cancer risks among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.” If this is true, it is surely worthy of serious consideration. The chlorine can enter the system both through drinking and through the skin. Though outside the scope of this article, it is a fact that the hot chlorinated water of a shower can actually be an even greater danger than drinking the water!

Scientific studies have linked chlorine and chlorination by-products to cancer of the digestive and excretory system in the bladder, liver, rectum, and colon. Dr. Riddle, Ph.D. stated, “Each day in America, about 30 cases of rectal cancer may be associated with THMs (chlorination by-products) in drinking water.”

The circulatory system is also affected by chlorine, causing heart disease, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), anemia, high blood pressure, and allergic reactions.

Evidence also indicates that chlorine can destroy protein in our bodies and cause various adverse effects on skin and hair. The presence of chlorine in the water may also form compounds that will affect the taste and odor of the water.

Chlorine remains a required substance in public water systems. Therefore, it is up to the individual to remove it before the water is ingested. Besides the Berkey Shower Filter, some activated charcoal water filters, like the Crown Berkey, claim that they can remove all chlorine and chlorine compounds to “below detectable limits.” These pollutants include Chlorobenzene, Carbon Tetrachloride, Dichlorobenzene, Chloroform, and a number of others. The truth is, there is no need to wait until definitive research shows that chlorine causes long term problems. It is possible to remove it from the family water supply and increase the quality of our drinking water now.

Natural Organic Foods

Posted By stevenlocke on June 29, 2009 @ 11:10 pm

The food available in supermarkets is often packed with chemicals and in the conditions of a rapid health deterioration of the population, it’s no wonder that more and more consumers turn to natural organic foods. Although comparisons between conventional and non-conventional foods are relevant, any consumer can use his/her common sense to decide whether the foods he/she buys are good for health. The dangers that lurk in non-organic foods are hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and fertilizers. The non-organic livestock is raised in very harsh conditions, while the fruit and vegetables are synthetically boosted to appeal to the consumer’s eye. By contrast, natural organic foods are cultivated or grown according to the rules of Mother Nature, with very little human intervention.

Natural organic foods may also have traces of pesticide residues, but these are usually drifted from nearby farms that use chemicals to grow crops. Furthermore, with natural organic foods the amount of nutrients is significantly higher while the threats are considerably fewer. If we take the example of organic eggs, analyses indicate that besides the lack of hormones and antibiotics, there is less saturated fat, less cholesterol, more Vitamin A, twice more Omega-3 acids, huge amounts of beta-carotene and seven times more Vitamin E than in non-organic eggs. The difference is more than apparent, not to mention that the quality of the protein is significant too.

natural and organic foods

The word has traveled far about the positive aspects of natural organic foods, and since not all geographic areas benefit from the direct access to organic retailers, it is good to know that one can order the various products from a close source online. If you want to buy natural organic foods, it is more likely to find them at the market than in hypermarkets. Moreover,  producers of natural organic foods are more likely to be found in the countryside; therefore take the best of any trip. Run a basic research and check for supplies.

natural organic foods

The only disadvantage of natural organic foods is their price, because they are between 10% and 40% more expensive than non-organic foods. When it comes to fruits and vegetables, take a look at the products and you’ll see the difference right away: there will be no flawless apples or strawberries, but various fruit sizes, some better than others. The same thing stays valid for meat, but you will only be able to tell which is which by shopping from the special organic sectors in markets or supermarkets.

Health Concerns and the Need for Mold Removal

Posted By stevenlocke on June 25, 2009 @ 7:34 pm

Mold and its effects that it has on the body have been well documented. There are many connections between breathing problems and being exposed to mold.People suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are in danger of lung infections through exposure to mold. And if the people with asthma could also develop a severe asthma attack if exposed to mold. There is solid evidence that rhinitis, urticaria, conjunctivitis, and nasal congestion is caused by mold. All of these health concerns lead to the necessary mold removal. Mold can be easily seen, or other times it can be behind walls, on or around pipes, or in basements. This makes complete removal of mold a challenge.

Now these tips are coming from an experienced water damage San Diego company.

Finding mold is not unusual because it is a common occurrence in nature. The molds in nature are all a part of the life cycle. They are present because they help to break down things like organic materials such as fallen leaves. How mold reproduces is through spores and that is also how it gets into our home or places of business. When spores are blown
onto a moist or wet surface they are able to stick to various structures and multiply. That is why controlling moisture in buildings is crucial in trying to control mold. Removing mold can be a huge task once it has taken hold. When you are doing the removal, the spores do become airborne, and they are looking
another target.

Free spores are what also cause health concerns. These mold spores, when airborne, are what causes allergies, irritations and can be inhaled in the lungs. Anything that spores grow and live on they destroy. Mold removal is imperative. You may be able to take on this type of job yourself, but there are some steps you should follow. If the infected area is less than ten square feet, then the EDA states that you should be able to clean this up yourself. But if the area is larger than this, the suggestion is that a professional be hired to do the removal.

Now if the area is something you feel you can do, make sure to take a few precautions prior to mold removal.First thing to do is protect yourself from breathing any mold spores by putting on a N-95 respirator. These do cost between 12-25 dollars in most hardware stores or online. Second thing to do is to wear long gloves, that should be made of natural rubber.Don’t use bare hand to touch mold. Third, be sure to wear goggles and be sure they don’t have ventilation because this will protect your eyes from the mold spores. Now you are ready to begin to clean. Begin by fixing leaking pipes and then scrub all the mold off with a disinfectant/ water combination or chlorine bleach/water
mixture. After the cleaning, make sure to dry everything. Remember the key is moisture control. If you don’t take care of the mold, there is a high likelihood it will return.

Follow these key steps as  they have been gained from years of experience as a mold removal San Diego company.

Instructions for Wine Making With Fruit

Posted By stevenlocke on June 24, 2009 @ 10:06 am

The wine making process is one which is quite complex but which can be understood rather easily, if you are willing.

Once you have all the equipment and a recipe book, you can begin your venture to making the best wine you have ever tasted. Home wine making allows you to try different flavor juices or fruits. You will find there are many different types of wines that you can make with a home wine making venture.

In cases of grape wine, this is made from pure grape juice. But for other fruit wines, additional water is needed to dilute the juice prior to the winemaking procedure. This is mainly because of the intense flavor. Secondly, some of the fruits may be high in their acidic property, which in turn makes the wine too sharp in taste if used full strength. Examples include gooseberry and blueberry juices.

The next step in the home wine making process involves fermentation. This is really where the magic is in the process and if left to its own devices, the must or juice will begin to ferment naturally within about eight hours, with the aid of wild yeasts in the air.  In clean wineries and vineyards however the fermentation process is quite different. Once fermentation begins, regardless of the chosen path, it will normally continue on until all of the sugar has been converted to alcohol and a dry wine is produced.

You make have heard of people who like a specific fruit mixed with another fruit, well this might just make a great wine as well. If you like a can of fruit cocktail, you might try making a fruit cocktail wine. There are some people that mix fruits and the wine is to die for. It has a taste you cannot find with any other wine around. Home wine making opens up new avenues for wine enthusiasts. If you like wine, you will love experimenting with new tastes.

You can really personalize this process and make it your own as long as you include the basics, and you will have a lot of fun and produce some fantastic wine that you can share with your family and friends. Wine making is a time honored tradition, one that has become incredibly popular in the world of today. If you have not tried making your own wine before then it is definitely something that you should try out sometime in the near future.

3 Types of Sushi To Make at Home

Posted By stevenlocke on June 23, 2009 @ 2:08 pm

Sushi is a wonderful tasting Japanese meal that everybody has heard of, and of course tasted as well.  And if you are lucky, you have tasted at wonderful Sushi restaurant Temecula.

It is a great traditional meal that consists of rice, seaweed and the famous ingredient, raw fish.

Now if you don’t like fish in the first place, of course you will not like sushi. But if the taste of seafood is something you love, then of course you will enjoy sushi.

Of course, most sushi is enjoyed in fine restaurants such as the one you can find at Sushi restaurant Lake Elsinore.  You can enjoy them in small fast food type of Japanese restaurants.

Or you can enjoy them in more formal dining environments, like the one found at Sushi Restaurant Hemet.

Or the best way, you can eat to your heart's content with the all you can eat style.

But if you are in an adventorous mood, you might even want to give it a go and make some at home.

Here is a quick explanation of the 3 kinds of sushi you can make.

First kind you will find is the Maki sushi.  It is the usual that you are used to that consists of fish/seafood with rice that is then wrapped in nori or seaweed. Most well known is the California roll of course

Now the Maki sushi does contain two different types within it.There is the Futomaki also known as the "fat maki" because you make it with 2 or more fillings of fish or seafood

Then there is the Hosomaki or "thin maki" that is made with only one filling of fish or seafood.  But it could also be a single vegetable as well.

The second type of sushi is called the Nigiri sushi.  This is a popular sushi that has a thin slice of raw fish, seafood, or other types of toppings that is placed on top of a rectangular chunk of rice.  There is nothing
that wraps it up such as seaweed, like the Maki sushi.

Finally there is the Uramaki, which can also be called the inside out sushi. It is known as the inside out because it is exactly that, a backwards version of the Maki because the rice is on the outside of the nori rather than the inside.  Also what is inside is the fish or seafood type of fare.

There you have it.3 great types of sushi you can give it a go at making it from home.

Naturally, the greatest way to make it the best is to first try some at a good sushi restaurant, so you can try all 3 styles and see what ingredients there are.

So happy eating.

Besides the healthier food product, the growing process itself also aid the ecosystem. This better environment is some of the comprehensive benefits of organic food. This reality isn’t just detected by lots of food manufacturers, but the food retailers also get the benefits of organic food products with a growing amount of these consumers.

Moreover, the current drive to help save the surroundings has sparked more awareness. It is not only shown in the manner the country uses fossil fuels. The environment concerns have been expressed by a smaller group of growers between the benefits of organic food for the user. Besides the pollutants, the chemicals used in loads of growing areas have brought an bad outcome on water supplies and the condition of the land and animal life.

Now let’s consider the plight of numerous insects that are useful to the growing process. Pollination would not be able to be accomplished without their subsistence, as chemical pesticides are powerless to direct their concentration to any one group of insects. When it is used haphazardly, all of the insects in the area will be killed. What is organic food and why does it cost so lots might be the most common inquery said by several consumers. Habitually higher cost and the extra expense are not measured to be worth the perceived benefits which are offer with consuming organic products. Nevertheles, to obtain the advantages of using only what is organic food, you need to to think beyond the rice cakes and organic vegetables. The apply of organic products to be a way of life change as well as a health and environmental advantage have to also be your advisement for this.

To find out what organic food is, it essentially involves many food product grown in organically certified ground without the use of any chemical treatments, both in pesticides or in fertilizers. Chemically enhanced pesticides and fertilizers have been used by growers for a lot of years because they were inexpensive and greatly improved their crop growth. Factors Making Plain Old Water Boring And Hard To Drink

Posted By stevenlocke on June 20, 2009 @ 2:32 am

It is really shocking that on one hand people are dying in absence of water in many developing countries and on the other hand many of us in developed countries are spoilt. In order to stay healthy we should drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses every day even though plain old water seems boring and hard to drink a lot.  So most people would prefer to make water that taste pleasant enough to make them want to drink enough to stay healthy.

To make it easier, a lot of people try adding some flavor to increase palatability. People can buy water already flavored at the store. Of course, many believe it is one of the most expensive items in the grocery store.Ideas given below for water are away from adding a lot of sugar or cost a lot of money.

If you are one of the many who want to stay away from chemicals or additives that are artificial as well as caffeine, here are some natural ways to add flavor to your water:

• A slice of lemon or
• A small piece of fruit
• A good cranberry juice concentrate as preferred
• Take a portion of cucumber
• A mint leaf

If you approve of artificial sweeteners try adding:

• A little light cranberry juice
• Crystal Light or a reputed sugar-free mix
• Limeade and/or lemonade by adding a small amount of juice
Among these flavors are added to club soda, seltzer water, or diet tonic water.
Get sparkling waters to add flavors. (A large assortment of calorie free flavors to flavor sparkling water to great taste is sold at http://allfreightfree.com)

You can replace milk and soda with water to drink when you are thirst.Force drinking water is not required. Too much water can cause cramps while exercising.

You have the option to purchase a filter for your faucet.   You can also buy fruit flavors for these filters to make your faucet water fruit favored when desired.

FlavorSplash is a well known product. FlavorSplash makes water fruit-flavored.  Recently a number of slightly flavored waters have come on the market – bottled by numerous companies.  Some are very good and some have mixed flavors that really don’t taste well together (in fact, some are quite awful).

I found one to improve the taste of water.  Combine a teaspoon of honey with a tablespoon of apple-cider vinegar and enough hot water to melt the honey. Make a gallon by adding water with stirring. You must chill it before drinking. (Apple-cider vinegar is said to be good for your overall health.)

There are many recipes for adding some taste to your water on many websites.A Google search can defenately help you in finding more than one favorites that make water palatable.
