Silver Flatware: A Luxury or a Necessity

Posted By stevenlocke on June 15, 2009 @ 12:50 am

It is an absolute pleasure for antique collectors to collect flatware from different sources. The price of a flatware object can vary tremendously in an auction based on the age of the flatware, person who was using the flatware and the intricate complex design patterns that are present on the flatware. It might appear as nonsense to someone who does not have the same passion for the flatware to see the antique flatware being bought at such a premium. But again, any antique buyer will appear in the same category if you do not share or understand the passion.

The antique flatware buyers do not usually use them for day-to-day activities. But, if the flatware is used by a famous person, then the buyer will be tempted to use the same at least once to boast that he or she has used the same saucer or the plate that the famous personality has used. But, 99% of the buyers put their antique flatware in showcases for the visitors to their home to see. Also, in certain castles and forts, the flatware used by kings in their time is retained. The flatware at these forts and castles can give a lot of insight into the eating habits of the elite of our past generations and exhibit the artistic ability of the smithies who lived in the past.

The silver flatware is very famous with most of the hoteliers. Some of the hoteliers travel around the world to choose the best flatware for their hotels. There are many books that are available that give complete details about a piece of flatware with a nice picture. The other day, I was reading a book and found that reed & barton stainless flatware is one of the finest in terms of quality and appearance.

So, if you are an antique object collector and you still do not have a flatware in your collection, then, do not miss a chance to buy it on the next auction day that you participate in. I would suggest a beautiful looking silver coated chest also to be bought, to place the antique flatware. The chest will for sure enrich the flatware objects multi-fold and is a visual treat.

Turkey Cooking Times Stove

Ensure the turkey is absolutely unfroze as microwave unfreezing followed by microwave cooking crates uneven cooking. Safe storage, handling, cooking techniques, and approximate cooking times for chicken. Cooking time can be reduced by as much as 30 minutes to an hour compared to traditional roasting timetable. Cooker Cooking Bag System cooking up a turkey in a range cooking bag could be a safe and a delicious alternative to the conventional roasting technique. Bag Technique This method involves placing the turkey in an enormous brown paper bag, the type used in grocery stores, and cooking the bird at a very low temperature. Pour off the splendidly flavourful cooking liquid that amasses in the bottom of the pan and use it for a side plate of dressing. A lot of variables may affect the roasting time of the whole bird: A partially frozen bird requires longer cooking.

Have You Experienced How Delicious Organic Coffee Can Be?

Posted By stevenlocke on June 12, 2009 @ 10:06 pm

I’m going to explain a bit about USDA certified organic products, especieally my favorite, organic coffee.

1) Organic items must not be made from any synthetic compounds.

2) Certified organic foods may not contain genetically modified plants or animals.

3) To be labeled 100% organic the product may only contain organic ingredients (excluding water and salt).

4) Products labeled “organic” must consist of a minimum of 95 percent organically produced components (excluding water and salt).  Any remaining product ingredients must consist of non agricultural components approved on the National List including  non-organically manufactured agricultural products that are not readily available in organic form.

5) If you see the USDA organic logo it guarantees the product is either 100% Organic or 95% organic.

6) If an agricultural item, such as coffee is labeled as organic it wasn’t be treated with disgusting fertilizers such as sewage sludge.

I’m not trying to belabor this issue with boring organic labeling information, but you should know what you’re getting into with “organic” products.  I know you’re probably wondering when we’re going to get to the organic coffee, we’ll here we go.  Since we are considering coffee, you can be almost completely confident that 100% of the ingredients are organic in an organically grown coffee.

Why should you care if your coffee is organic coffee?

1) Not withstanding what you feel about standard farming practices, can anyone imagine slugging down something treated with sewage sludge?

2) Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not happy with genetically modified coffee, and I drink a lot of coffee.

3) If you don’t like the buzz of real coffee then only drink organic decaffeinated coffee, or don’t drink coffee at all.  Hazardous chemicals such as ethyl acetate and methylene chloride are used in making traditional decaffeinated coffees.  Organic decaf. coffees are treated by a water method.  There seems to be proof to suggest that drinking chemical processed decaffeinated coffees may lead to rheumatoid arthritis.

4)  Not only are chemicals bad for us, but think about the poor coffee farmers.   Coffee is grown in primarily poor places in the world, and many farmers are not able to read herbicide and pesticide warning labels, resulting in improper preparation of chemicals, and therefore, toxic exposure for them and the environment.

What we’ve just gone through are just a few considerations to only buy organic coffee.  Then there is the production of pesticides and herbicides.  The environmental damage from this alone is motivation enough to persuade one to drink organic coffee.

As a final thought, farmers that grown their coffees organically are giving specieal attention to the ongoing needs of their coffee, resulting in high quality coffee that tastes great!  It’s never too late to start drinking organic coffee.  So give it a try, you may be happy as a clam.

If you’re wondering where to get some outstanding   organic coffee look no further than Nectar of Life Coffee.  It’s more than organic coffee, it’s the Nectar of Life!

natural organic foods

Posted By stevenlocke on June 10, 2009 @ 12:39 am

organic food market

Natural organic products have got the upper-hand when it comes to shoppers’ preferences, and lots of companies have started introducing them as a means to increase their sales. Natural organic products speak of better health and higher quality thanks to the pure natural ingredients. Presently, there are special sections in supermarkets where shoppers can read the organic certification for fruits, vegetables, dairy products and meat, which is a guarantee of the product origin and production specifics. In fact, lots of supermarket chains have developed long-term contract-based business relationships with suppliers of natural organic products.

The dissemination of information: this is another criterion to extend the use of natural organic products. People want to be informed and need all sorts of materials to learn about the benefits to go organic. Market studies indicate that there is quite a number of consumers who do not choose natural organic products because they don’t make a difference. The advantages of organic foods represent the elements that influence a smart purchase. Thus, it suffices to say that the nutritional value of organic food is much higher than that of regular products. Thus, there are more minerals, antioxidants, vitamins and proteins.

There are other issues closely related with the purchase of natural organic products. When you mainly rely on this kind of food, there are more benefits than you can suspect: thus, the environment suffers from a lot less pressure, for instance. This is the explanation why people who choose to live a green life ban products treated with chemicals. With the increased exposure of natural organic products we may wonder on the possible evolution of the food market in the coming years.

Will natural organic products stick to a high quality level? Will there be a corruption at the heart of the system and even organic items will undergo some processing? Will regular crops disappear? One can definitely predict, but the truth is that we are writing the future ourselves. It is easy to figure out why with the higher organic food demand, many regular food producers will adapt to the new conditions. However, the risk of this adjustment is the potential deterioration of the high quality of the natural organic products. It therefore remains to be seen which will win the battle of regular vs. organic.

What Makes A Vegetarian

Posted By stevenlocke on June 7, 2009 @ 9:07 pm

Many non-vegetarians wonder what drives vegetarians to give up meat and adopt an entirely different lifestyle. There is no single answer to this question. Non-vegetarians become vegetarians for a number of different reasons – some even for multiple reasons. Most vegetarians claim that they became a vegetarian for one or more reasons.

The most mentioned reason, which many vegetarians claim, is that they have ethical problems with eating meat. Most disagree with how chickens are debeaked, forced to live in small cages, and are then slaughtered when they do not produce eggs fast enough. Most vegetarians also disagree with the crowded and stressful environments animals are forced into and the hormone laden feed used to make them grow faster and produce more.

People who become vegetarians for this purpose often draw ethical boundaries in different spots, depending on their personal beliefs. For instance, some staunch vegans won’t consume yeast, wear wool, or even eat certain vegetables, such as carrots, that require killing the plant to harvest. On the opposite side of the spectrum, some vegetarians–sometimes referred to as pseudo-vegetarians–will actually eat fish and chicken on a regular basis.

Not all vegetarians object to consuming meat products for the same reasons. Some simply do not like meat or perhaps have health concerns pertaining to cholesterol, preservatives or hormones contained in meat.

There is a small group of vegetarians who cite environmental reasons for not consuming meat. They complain that consumption of meat causes farmers to continually deforest land to create grazing land for cattle. In addition to these three reasons, there are also a number of other vegetarians who stopped eating meat for other reasons entirely.

Know Some Facts About Carbonated Water

Posted By stevenlocke on June 4, 2009 @ 7:36 am

We know that drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day is essential for good health. We have also seen that many people prefer to drink water that has some type of flavor added to it. Carbonation has opened up a whole new arena of drinking liquids to satisfy almost every taste. It is the process of dissolving carbon dioxide to form carbonic acid which gives a slight burning sensation when we drink a can of soda, for instance.

Seltzer and sparkling water are another names for water that has been treated with carbon dioxide to give it its effervescent quality. The gas, or fizz, which is released appears as bubbles that we see in the soda. It also makes a fizzy sound that excites the champagne and the persons who drink beer.

Some interesting observations came up during researching articles on carbonation. It is said that all carbonated beveragesare not created equal. Some can have more carbon dioxide added to it, depending on the result that is required. CO2 can produce toxicity in higher concentrations: 1% (10,000 ppm) will make some people feel drowsy. Concentrations of 7% to 10% cause dizziness, headache, visual and hearing dysfunction, and unconsciousness within a few minutes to an hour.

Introducing carbon dioxide (CO2) into a beverage increases its weight. This can be proved by weighing a bottle of seltzer, then remove the cap carefully so that no liquid come out. Release the gas from the bottle and weigh it again. You will notice a significant amount in weight loss. Shaking the bottle when it is closed then opening it will release more CO2 , which reduces its weight. Is this the reason that regular consumption of these drinks leads to obesity?

Club soda is a specific type of carbonated water which may contain other minerals and table salt. These additives are put in to imitate the taste of homemade soda water. Carbonated water is believed to contain high amounts of sodium, but this is not true. It is simply water to which carbon dioxide and no extra thing has been added. You can drink carbonated water alone when you feel thirsty or with alcoholic beverages.

CARBONATED WATER

You can make your own homemade brand of carbonated waterwith a soda siphon. Fill the bottle with water, close its mouth with its lid and then attach it to a small cylinder of carbon dioxide, sometimes known as a “charger”. Since other types of cylinders might contain lubricants in them so be cautious and use only food grade cylinders. Screw the cylinder on until it is pierced properly, releasing the carbon dioxide into it. Then shake the bottle well. The bubbles will be smaller in size in comparison to those in commercially made brands. If he quality of your homemade carbonated water satisfies you, it is time to add fruit flavors from allfreightfree.com to enhance the flavor of your drink.
