The world we live in is a wasteful one. An incredible amount of landfill that is not able to be processed is produced every day in Europe and America, with over 30million pieces of tableware being disposed of every 24hours. It is likely that there will always be a demand for tableware as society is not going to change over night, but we may not have much to eat off of them if we continue to mistreat nature? One Richmond-based business think they have cracked it.
They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. They clean like any other tableware and are totally safe to use. where they differ however is that they biodegrade over time and can be absorbed by micro-bacterias, fungus and plants.
The business has received some prestigious awards already and has been praised by councils and Eco-friendly charities alike. Their latest award came from a company that helps new, ethically motivated businesses find their feet. The company is called New Visions and run not-for-profit.
$2500 was included in the award and the company say it has been earmarked for new product developments. Cutlery, saucers and plates are among the 30 products that they currently have in their collection. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives
Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. “the is no limit to where it can be used” she stated. It will lighten the load put on waste disposal companies and will save people a lot of money and maybe even the earth.
Additional to her newest tableware concepts, Jocelyn is now researching products from various industry sectors with the hope of applying the technology there also. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
