Keyboard Practice: How Online Keyboard Courses Helps You Improve

Posted By Brent Sweet on April 9, 2009 @ 6:33 am
by Bryan Smith

Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced keyboard player, online keyboard courses can help you with your keyboard practice by taking you to a different level. Even though a lot of traditionalists still prefer to be taught by offline teachers, which is fine and certainly effective for some, online keyboard courses are viewed as an accelerated path for those who wants to improve through the new methods of teaching and how these courses constantly leverage off the power of community.

Fresh teaching approach

Many of the online keyboard courses introduce keyboard practice methods that have never been seen before. For example, some products include games that are created to improve your familiarity with notes and chords, which are very well-received by customers.

This fresh approach to teaching is made possible by the fact that online keyboard courses do not have the hardware restrictions that many keyboard teachers have when conducting lessons physically, so creators of the course actually have more flexibility to introduce new methods that help to generate higher levels of interest in learning.

Power of the community

Many online courses do not simply provide the materials to aid keyboard practice, but they create members-only platform for their customers to interact actively. Given that existing customers have access to the same materials, seeking help on learning difficulties and the provision of peer guidance are just some of the regular exchanges in the forums. This form of communication add values to the customers as it allows like-minded members a place to engage actively with individuals who are all learning and practicing for a similar goal.

I often come across people with the common misconception that keyboard courses are for beginners only, this is totally not true. Given that these courses are sold and delivered over the internet at minimal costs, most course creators can afford to pack many different materials and compile really extensive bundles that are suitable for players across all levels.

However, do your homework and make sure that you are actually purchasing the right course to help with your keyboard practice as some courses are made for specific niches. For example, there are many courses that are made exclusively for complete beginners, and that will not suit someone with some form of playing experience.

How to Know if you are Progressing on the Piano

by Bryan Smith

Sometimes it may feel as though you are practicing the piano and yet making very little progress. Don’t worry, this is very common and a lot of people that play the piano experience it. Sometimes you are getting ahead in very subtle ways that you are not even noticing.

Sometimes you are not, and have hit a flat spot in your progression that simply needs to be worked through. In either case, here are some hints to help you know if you are progressing on the piano.

If you have been playing a piece over and over again and keep making one mistake after another it may just be that you have to break that song down into smaller segments to practice. If you have already done this, then you may need to break it down even more! Some musicians have taken a difficult piece and broken it down into line by line segments. You can get it right by just taking small baby steps with the song before putting it all together.

If your fingers are just not following your directions, and seem to have a mind of their own, it may be that you need to take some time and exercise them. Even if your hands are physically in shape, taking the time to exercise them puts a communication back in place between your hands and your mind.

Take a few minutes and stretch them and work with them so that they are better able to work with you as well. You see many great pianists take the time to do simple hand motions between songs, and this is why. You need to stay in communication with your hands at all times when you play the piano.

If all else fails take a walk. Sometimes it is just a break that you really need and you need to acknowledge that and walk away from the piano. Getting your mind off of the piano may be just what you need so that the next time you go back to it you are able to play much better. If you go back and find that you are still not progressing on the piano then you’re going to have to find out what the problems really are and work on them.

You will find that one of these methods usually works. Once you are back on track you will often see that you are playing better than you were before you hit this rough spot, and have indeed made progress, but you were not able to notice it. This is how to know if you are progressing on the piano. You get through the tough times and come out better than ever.

What Makes a Movie Disaster

Posted By Algernon Elwood on @ 4:39 am
by Rodney Corey

Nobody ever sets out to make a terrible movie, but a large majority of them do end up very bad and ultimately under-perform at the box-office. But how do these movies go bad? How does a movie such as Speed Racer, with its huge budget, special effects and big stars completely sink in the theatres?

With big budget movies getting even more complex than ever before, it is no surprise that things can go horribly wrong. With many different people working on these productions, it is such a shame that just one person could not see it as a whole and spot the mistakes. Unfortunately some of the solutions to these problems can be even more complex than the problem. And it can be very to completely overlook the obvious and see the solution clearly.

Of course, even if Hollywood turns out a truly awful movie, it doesn?t mean it can?t have moderate success at the box office, if only briefly. The lesson is that it doesn’t matter what truly awful movies Hollywood wants to throw out at the public, people are going to show up and spend their money.

Money can be made by throwing plenty of cash hard and fast at a movie and have a very intense advertising campaign. They will eventually realise that the movie completely stinks, but if you are quick enough with campaign, then you can get some money back before the public figures it out.

But the bigger question, if you have just spent a lot of money making a movie just for it to turn out bad, why would you throw even more money in its direction with the hope of getting it back again? Hollywood has always thrown good money after bad. Get the best trailer you can possibly squeeze from the movie out in theatres and on tv, and you can make the movie look ten times better than it actually is.

Build everything up about the film to be many times bigger than it really is. Don?t undersell as a simple love story. Sell it as an action-packed love story where the two characters are extremely good looking and the movie is full of action.

With the trailer, make sure all of the very best shots from the movie are there, even shots that haven?t even made it to the final cut. With this you can get audiences rushing to the theatres to see your movie.

Big budget movies such as Speed Racer are the kind of movies that can completely destroy production companies, ruin movie stars careers, and prove to the rest of the world that advertising can?t work miracles and even Hollywood can get it drastically wrong.

Your movie could have the latest top director, the biggest stars in Hollywood, fancy special effects and the biggest budget available, and this still wouldn?t guarantee a success at the box office.

Nelly Furtado – A Brief Bio

Posted By Amy Nutt on April 7, 2009 @ 3:03 am
by Amy Nutt

Nelly Furtado is one of the most dynamic stars in pop music today. Since the release of her first album “Whoa, Nelly!” in 2000, she’s consistently pushed the boundaries of music genres by incorporating influences from music around the world. Nelly Furtado songs have won a Grammy, six Juno awards and one MTV Europe Music Award.

Born in Canada in 1978, Furtado was inspired to sing and perform at an early age. She started singing at 4 and began writing her own lyrics at 12. Shortly before she graduated from secondary school, she began making contacts within the rap and hip hop community in Toronto. A solo performance at the 1997 Honey Jam in Toronto caught the attention of Gerald Eaton and Brian West, two members of the group The Philosopher Kings. The duo helped Furtado create a demo which led to a deal with DreamWorks records. Her first single appeared on the soundtrack album for the film Brokedown Palace.

Eaton and West helped Furtado produce her debut album “Whoa Nelly!” The album was released in October of 2000 to rave reviews. The hit single “I’m Like a Bird” eventually won Furtado her first Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Additional hits from the album were “Turn Off the Light” and “On the Radio (Remember the Days). The Nelly Furtado music video for the former showcased her multicultural background.

The album was critically acclaimed for her unique musical style and fresh approach to pop music. Her cultural background gave the album a unique mix of genres and sounds. Furtado is of Portuguese descent and speaks Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi.

Her second album, “Folklore”, was released in November of 2003 shortly after the birth of her daughter, Nevis. Due to poor promotion by the label, the album was less successful than her first album. The singles from the album were “Powerless (Say What You Want)” and “Try”. The song “Forca” from the album was used as the official anthem of the 2004 European Football Championship. The song “Childhood Dreams” was dedicated to her daughter.

In 2006, Furtado’s third and most successful album to date was released. “Loose” was primarily produced by the hip hop producer Timbaland which is evident in the album’s hip hop and R&B sound. Although many of her old fans rejected Furtado’s new direction, the album produced number one hits across the globe. The singles “Promiscuous”, “Maneater”, “Say It Right” and “All Good Things (Come to an End)” topped charts in many different countries due to Nelly Furtado videos and radio play.

In addition to singing, Furtado has recently added acting to her list of skills. She made her debut in the 2006 movie “Nobody’s Hero” and had a role in 2008′s “Max Payne” movie. She has also appeared on television in the shows CSI: New York and Roswell.

Even though many of the lyrics on her album “Loose” are sexually suggestive, Furtado has repeatedly rejected attempts by outside influences to oversexualize her image. She turned down $500,000 that was offered to her by Playboy to use Nelly Furtado pictures. She refuses to pose in sexy outfits for magazines, and was very upset when a men’s magazine digitally removed portions of her outfit so it appeared more revealing.

Furtado plans to release her fourth album between May and August of 2009. She will be recording songs in English and Spanish for the new record. She will also be recording an entire album in Spanish and an additional album in Portuguese.
