Protecting my Automobiles

Posted By Admin on August 7, 2008 @ 11:15 am

I am happy to say that I own a couple of cars and I treat them like my babies.  Sure, one of them is just an old Ford Topaz, but the other is a 1965 Mustang and is my baby.

Though they may be different, I still need to have them insured.  That is where my cheap auto insurance steps in.  I don’t pay a lot for it, but it makes sure that they are both protected from theft and damage should something happen.

The biggest challenge for me was to find classic car insurance.  I found that a lot of insurance firms didn’t give me the coverage that I expected for the value of the car.  So instead of just going to get my insurance all from one place, I ended up shopping around for the best cheap car insurance rate that I could find.

Needless to say, I feel a lot better when my cars have insurance - I just like having the peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, my interests are protected.

Getting a Home Insurance Quote Online

Posted By Admin on July 23, 2008 @ 11:51 pm

After getting hurt at work and breaking my leg, my income was near to non-existent.  Thankfully, I did have some savings, but they were quickly wiped out.  Sure, my wife was still working, but she didn’t make enough to cover all of our expenses - we were in trouble.

The big mistake that we did was bounce our car insurance payment - and in turn the company canceled our home and auto insurance coverage.  We couldn’t just leave ourselves unprotected from theft or damage and we needed to do something.

Since I couldn’t drive, we sold the car.  We decided that the money that we received from the sale would be put towards a new home insurance policy.  After the car was sold, we decided to shop around for car insurance.

I was able to get many home insurance quotes from the comfort of my own home thanks to the Internet.  I printed them out, and my wife and I decided on the one we could afford and bought it.  It sure felt better knowing that our home and belongings were protected - if we didn’t have Internet access, we would have had to leave everything up to chance.

I am so Naive

Posted By Twyla on May 21, 2008 @ 9:57 am

The one thing I hate the most about driving is the substantially increasing cost of car insurance. I have always been insured through the same company and it seems like my car insurance goes up every year. I would have thought that it would go down every year, as the value of the vehicle depreciates and every year that passes, they would have to pay less to replace the vehicle.

I was complaining this to my dad and he was also confused, as he says that his auto insurance decreases every year. He suggested that I call around and get some auto insurance quotes. I found a company that would charge way less than I was paying. I immediately switched my coverage over to them, but I was still angry that I had been paying without questioning it for so many years.

I know that it is mostly my own fault, for being so naïve, but I think it is all a little bit dishonest.

Looking into Medicare Supplement Plan

Posted By Admin on May 3, 2008 @ 12:51 pm

After a short hospital stay a few weeks ago, I realized that the medical coverage and I had was not adequate enough if something bad were to happen to me.  It gave me quite a scare as I really don’t have a lot of life savings.  If I did have to make an extended stay in the hospital right now, my finances would be wiped out in a short period of time.

So I’ve decided that I should get some Medicare supplement insurance and I’ve been looking online to find companies that give an online quote.  Specifically, I was looking for California Medicare supplement quotes and I found a number of companies that will meet my needs.

Now, all I have to do is figure out which one offers the best policy for me with respect to the price and benefits that I would receive.  All I can say is that I’ll feel a lot better once I have some coverage in place.

Surviving Week One

Posted By Twyla on March 17, 2008 @ 1:09 am

I made it through my first week at my new job. I am now officially an insurance salesperson. It was stressful, but I really enjoyed it. My first sale was for condo insurance. It was for an older couple that had retired the year before and were ready to sell their house and downsize to a condo. They were very pleasant to deal with.

Unfortunately, I can’t say that about every customer I had to deal with this past week. There was an especially difficult gentleman who was interested in renters insurance. I told him that it was a very important thing to have and that he should purchase some right away. He informed me that he was just getting quotes right now.

I said that was fine, but that there were many things that he could be liable for and needed to be insured as soon as possible. He said he couldn’t buy until he got his annuity in three months, but wanted to shop around until then. He was very rude and made me want to cry. But, believe it or not, I made it through the first week with no tears.

Taking Care of Our Employees

Posted By Twyla on March 5, 2008 @ 4:34 pm

Years ago, when my husband and I launched our first company, we wanted to do something special for our employees. We thought that giving them free health insurance would be just the thing. I remember calling around to different companies to get individual health insurance quotes.

I wanted the coverage to include accident insurance. I felt it was always better to be safe than sorry. You just never know what the future has in store for you and I have been in accidents before. Lucky for me, I have always had coverage and often wonder what happens when people do not.

Our company has expanded and it now includes several businesses. We are very well known for being good employers and we are always adding new incentives and benefits for our employees. We are currently looking into adding vision insurance plans with their pre-existing packages. We have had some feedback on this and everyone is excited about it.

Long Term Care Scare

Posted By Admin on November 19, 2007 @ 7:54 am

Now I don’t know about you, but I am pretty healthy.  Sure I get sick here and there, but nothing really worth talking about.  But let me tell you I have made arrangements for when I do become unhealthy some day - and you should too.

What prompted me to plan for when I am unhealthy?  Well, you see, my father had an accident and ended up in a nursing home for a few months.  Now, he didn’t really have the money to pay for his condo and for his stay in a nursing home - he was in dire trouble.  In fact, after about three months, all the money he saved up is almost gone.

Now, I don’t want to be like him - nor do I want to see my savings up in the air.  I looked on many health related blogs for the answer of what I should do to prepare for poor health and the financial consequences.

There were many answers out there, but I was looking for the best solution for me.  Thankfully there was an answer for me:  I could buy long term care insurance.  Now, this insurance would pay your health care bill that would accrue when you need to stay in a long term care facility.

Price wise, it is quite reasonable, especially when you consider the alternative if you don’t have it - the devastation of your savings.  Needless to say, I signed up for a policy and you should too - you won’t thank me now, but you sure might later.

A Financial Trend I Noticed Today

Posted By Admin on October 13, 2007 @ 3:54 am

I was spending some of my time today looking at some personal finance news websites.  I have a great interest in this topic as we all have money.  What I like is to find ways to make my money work harder for me as well as find ways to save a buck or two here and there.

I usually read a few finance websites every day.  I try to find new ones each day so that I can get a new perspective on things - it helps me to keep an open mind.  While reading some articles on one of these websites today I noticed two trends I hadn’t noticed before:  all of these sites talked about mortgages and car insurance.

I can understand them talking about mortgages.  We have all been trained since we were young: go to school, get a career and buy a house.  To buy the house we need a mortgage.  Pretty much all of these sites make an effort to show you what to look for in terms of a mortgage and they all tend to focus on the repayment options.  Obviously, it is in your best interest to get the mortgage paid off as quickly as possible and they show you how.

The other common element that I noticed was discussion about car insurance.  I can tell by all the commercials that you see on TV, this is definitely an area where most people can save some money.  Where I live, we don’t have an option (there is only one car insurance company and that is who you have to go with), but I did check out some of the sites and it sure seems like there is some steep competition.

I find it rewarding that I noticed this today.  You always feel good when you discover something or learn something new.  I am going to make an effort to try a little harder to see if I can notice any other trends tomorrow.

Safe Abroad - A Chance Visit to Our Insurance Broker

Posted By Admin on July 20, 2007 @ 6:11 am

I wanted to know a little more about my medical insurance.  The few times we have had to use it, it has been great, but we are leaving the country to work for a number of months, and we wanted to be sure we were covered in case of a medical emergency.

We made a quick call to our insurance broker and setup an appointment.  We asked if our regular medical insurance covered us if we took a trip out of the country.  The answer was no.

Our broker then walked us through the available options for travel medical insurance.  In our case, the long term travel insurance was a better choice as we are going to be out of the country for about eight months.  The type we will be getting is supplemental coverage, which just ensures that our health insurance covers all procedures abroad.

Thankfully we took this step to visit our insurance broker.  Be sure to check into whether or not your health insurance covers you when you are out of the country – if it doesn’t, you may be in for a nasty surprise.

Switch Insurance Companies Because of Poor Customer Service

Posted By Admin on July 9, 2007 @ 3:48 pm

I find service nowadays to be mediocre at best.  Whether it be going to a restaurant, getting your car repaired, or even your insurance company, service is just not the same as it used to be.

I can remember when I first signed up for car insurance the salesperson was quick to point out discounts you could take advantage of, called you periodically to check on how your insurance policy was doing for you and sent you a Christmas card each year.  It seems these little touches have long gone.  Now, you are no longer considered as an important customer but rather a number.  In fact, many people switch car insurance companies just because of poor customer service.  I know I have.

What I would suggest is to look at other car insurance providers if you are not satisfied with the customer service you are receiving.  It is your money, so you should be treated well.  Should you be treated badly, remind them if you were not paying the insurance company, they would not have jobs.
