Solitaire rings, diamonds, anniversary rings in diamond and other precious stones — these are not exactly a girl’s best friend. Sorry to contradict the song. It’s a sentiment right out of the sixties and one that, frankly, is a slap in the face to the wonderful relationships that women now enjoy with one another.
In the 1950’s and 60’s, women were depicted in film and on TV as catty, competitive with one another and definitely not “groupy.” I actually had a woman who was a kind of mentor to me in college say flat out that women were not “groupy people.”
That may have been true in decades past, but no longer. Women are bonding on a deeper level than ever before, finding strength, support and encouragement in their relationships with one another, and learning that those friendships can endure longer than some marriages.
TV series like “Sex and the City,” and now the movie of the same name, celebrate the bonds of friendship (and fashion). A girl’s best friend? Not diamonds. Another woman, of course.
Before I begin my rant, I want to say I am happy for my life. Despite what I am about to say, I wouldn’t trade my chance at life for anything. But, I have had the worst week in my life.
You see, I haven’t been feeling well, and so I went to see my doctor. After running a few tests and a couple weeks later, I find out that I have been diagnosed with Diabetes.
At least it is a disease that can be controlled right? Well, that is definitely a plus. On the bad side of things the coverage that I have for Medicare Health insurance is not adequate to cover the expenses I will incur with the Insulin, and supplies I will need.
I have looked into Medicare supplement insurances and I will have to buy into one of them. Without doing that, I don’t know how I will afford everything I need. Being young, with a low-paying job, it is going to take most of my income to pay for what I need.
In the meantime, my doctor has given me a free diabetes testing kit to start out with. I will have to get the Insulin and other supplies I need, but at least that will help me out. Now, I just need to learn about how my life is going to be different - because I am sure it is going to be.
I received my computer magazine in the mail today and I was excited. I am a big computer nut and it is exciting to read about the new computers that are on the market, new components, and things I should be adding to my wish list. I have been an avid reader of this magazine for five years now, and I just couldn’t wait to open it.
Well… I am not too happy.
You see, one of the big reasons that I love this magazine is that they had few advertisements inside. But, this issue was different. Seems that they needed a lot of advertising revenue so there was more advertising inside than content.
What really made me mad was a section on the best registry repair tools. Just as I finished reading the Registry Easy review and started on the Regcure review, I noticed at the bottom of the page that it was a paid advertisement page. I really hate pages that are designed to look like a part of the magazine when they are really advertising - talk about misleading your customer.
So, I think I will give it one more month, and if they continue to be full of more fluff than stuff, I will have to cancel my subscription. Besides, I could always get the information off of the Internet anyway.
